Joan and Dr. Robert Rechnitz founded the Two River Theater in 1994. The theater originally performed at Monmouth University and then in Manasquan’s Algonquin Theater before making a home in Red Bank in 2005. Both Joan and Robert sought to create an intimate environment for audiences to enjoy performances of classic productions, new creations, and rediscovered masterpieces.
Each season, the theater holds several plays and one feature holiday performance. This past 2012-2013 season the Two River Theater had productions including The Electric Baby, Topdog/Underdog, No Place to Go, and A Wind in the Willows.
But Joan and Dr. Robert Rechnitz didn’t want their audiences to be filled with just seasoned theatergoers. They wanted to introduce the world of theater to people of all ages, hoping to create a whole new generation of theater-lovers. To entice a younger audience, the Two River Theater offers numerous classes and workshops, allowing them to engage with writers and performers.
The Rechnitzes, overall, want to enrich the community with the arts and develop a whole new world of American theater.
