The Smithsonian Institution chose Asbury Park as the first stop of its traveling musical heritage exhibit, “New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music” in 2011. From March 11 to April 17, over 14,000 people enjoyed the exhibit. With such a success, this event marked the celebration of Asbury Park’s musical heritage and eventually, the creation of the Asbury Park Music Heritage Foundation (APMHF). A group of volunteers realized that Asbury Park’s rich musical history shouldn’t have just a one-time celebration; they decided that it should be honored year after year.

The APMH’s mission is to preserve and promote Asbury Park’s musical history creating an environment where music is not only created and acclaimed but also provided to make up a vibrant musical town. They hope to raise money to bring music opportunity to the town’s youth and give kids various programs, instruction, lessons, and instruments.
